Lynne Littman, the Oscar winning director of documentaries and narrative films, has been elected to the Motion Picture Academy's Board of Governors representing the Documentary Branch. She replaces Michael Apted, who resigned early from the board due to a work commitment.
Littman won the Oscar for Best Documentary Short in 1977 for NUMBER OUR DAYS, a film about Jews living in Venice, California. Her documentary feature credits include HAVING OUR SAY: THE DELANEY SISTERS FIRST 100 YEARS and in 1983 she directed the nuclear war drama TESTAMENT, which earned an Oscar nomination for lead actress Jane Alexander.
Littman joins fellow governors Robert Epstein (two-time Oscar winner for THE TIMES OF HARVEY MILK and COMMON THREADS: STORIES FROM THE QUILT) and Richard Pearce (cinematographer on HEARTS AND MINDS and WOODSTOCK, narrative director of the Jessica Lange/Sam Shepard drama COUNTRY).
Wow, Testament is one of my all-time favorites. It's so great to see Littman's name in the news again.
