While sales for documentaries were slow during the Sundance Film Festival, distributor Arthouse Films, led by former Palm Pictures acquisitions head David Koh, has picked up two films from the festival's US Competition slate - Doug Pray's ART & COPY and Emily and Sarah Kuntsler's WILLIAM KUNTSLER: DISTURBING THE UNIVERSE.
The deal for ART & COPY was announced on the last day of the festival, marking the only sale for a doc during this year's Sundance. The KUNSTLER acquisition was announced late last week. Both deals were brokered by sales rep Josh Braun.
Arthouse plans a 2009 theatrical launch for both films, followed by a DVD release. The KUNSTLER film will air on P.O.V. in 2010.
