Back in Los Angeles after five days at the Denver Film Fest (much more about that soon), which was preceded by a non-stop several days here at AFI Fest (again soon), and just in time to start blogging the big 2nd half of November doc extravaganza. Soon we will have the first look at next year's potentially important nonfiction titles when the Sundance Film Festival announces their line-up as well as the unveiling of this year's Independent Spirit Awards nominees, but first we will learn tomorrow which films made the cut for this year's Academy Awards shortlist. Last year, 15 films made the cut. This year, it's anybody's guess, but as of 10:30 PM, David Poland has the names of 10 films that he's confirmed, and they are some of the predicted titles - Inconvenient Truth, The Trials of Darryl Hunt, Iraq in Fragments, Shut Up and Sing, Blindsight, Deliver Us From Evil and Jesus Camp. Poland says that double Sundance winner God Grew Tired Of Us and recent doc hit The US Vs John Lennon will not be on the list.
We'll have the full report tomorrow.
