Indiewire has the full list of nominations for this years Independent Spirit Awards. The Squid and the Whale leads with six nominations and will compete in the Best Feature category with Brokeback Mountain, Capote, Good Night and Good Luck and The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada. Aside from Estrada, the four nominees seem to stand an equally good chance of being nominated for Best Picture when the Academy announces its contenders in January.
In the documentary category, the nominated films included Enron: The Smartest Guys in the Room, Grizzly Man, La Sierra, Romantico and Sir! No Sir!. Of the nominees, only Enron made the Academy short list, continuing a trend of the Spirit Awards to recognize films that the Academy has overlooked (last year's winner was Metallica: Some Kind of Monster, which also failed to make the Academy short list).
