Marshall Curry, who was the talk of Tribeca for most of the week with his kids-in-go-carts documentary, RACING DREAMS, tonight won the Grand Jury Prize at the festival. Yoav Shamir's DEFAMATION received a Special Jury Prize.
indieWIRE's Peter Knegt reported earlier today that RACING DREAMS also looks to be the favorite in the competition for the Audience Award, which - like IDFA - Tribeca is tallying in public.
Ian Olds, who has co-directed two previous feature documentaries (and won an Independent Spirit Award for OPERATION: DREAMLAND), was awarded the Best New Documentary Filmmaker prize for his excellent new film THE FIXER. (As we've seen from New Directors/New Films, one can apparently be "new" in New York well into your third or even fourth feature.)
Both Curry and Olds received cash prizes of $25,000 for their wins.
The much talked about circumcision doc PARTLY PRIVATE (directed by Danae Elon) received the award for Best New York Documentary.
