EARTH - the first film from Disneynature - crossed $10 million at the box office sometime on Saturday, hitting that marker on its 4th day in release, matching the pace set by Michael Moore's FAHRENHEIT 9/11 to tie that film as the 4th fastest nonfiction title to reach that level of theatrical success.
Only the two JACKASS films and this year's JONAS BROTHERS concert doc got to $10 million faster. FAHRENHEIT played two days in limited release before opening wide on its third day in theaters.
For comparison, Moore's SICKO got to $10 million on its 16th day in theaters, MARCH OF THE PENGUINS on its 33rd day and AN INCONVENIENT TRUTH on day 35.
Estimates after this weekend peg EARTH with a 5-day cume of $14.2 million, over a million more than Larry Charles and Bill Maher's RELIGULOUS, the top nonfiction film of 2008.
