Scenes From the Spirit Awards
A nice afternoon on the beach in Santa Monica with the consensus that Rainn Wilson was a great host. The nonfiction prizes went to Dan Klores' CRAZY LOVE and Laura Dunn's THE UNFORESEEN, which was awarded the Truer Than Fiction grant.
Here are pictures from Saturday's indie shindig:
IFC's Alison Willmore and SXSW Film Fest's Matt Dentler provide live color commentary of the arrivals for IFC.com.
FROWNLAND director Ronnie Brownstein, who was nominated for the Someone to Watch grant, gets ready for his close-up.
Dan Klores accepts the Best Documentary trophy for CRAZY LOVE.
Truer Than Fiction nominees Laura Dunn (who won for THE UNFORESEEN), Gary Hustwit (HELVETICA) and John Maringouin (RUNNING STUMBLED) at the IFC afterparty.
And a few from Thursday night's nominees reception, the LA Film Festival's Rachel Rosen, Film Independent Executive Director Dawn Hudson and GREAT WORLD OF SOUND director Craig Zobel, nominated for Best First Feature.
Pernille Rose Gronkjær, director of THE MONASTERY - MR. VIG AND THE NUN, nominated for Best Documentary (and also up for three Cinema Eye Honors), with Gary Hustwit, in a mini-BritDoc reunion.
Finally, QUIET CITY director Aaron Katz, nominated for the Cassavetes award, at the nominees reception with Laura Dunn.

What you can't tell from that photo is that immediately after it was taken, Matt and I both died from hypothermia.
